Company history
1935 | Paul Bast establishes the company as a supplier for the mattress industry. The production of mattress inner springs is started. |
1955 | From around 1955, the company started producing slatted frames and distinguishing itself as a supplier for wholesalers. |
1975 | The company is entered in the trade register under the name of Bast KG. |
1980 | The company moves to the first company-owned premises in Werne. |
1983 | Following the death of Paul Bast, his three sons Rainer, Dieter and Volkhard-Paul Bast take over the company management. |
1990 | The slatted frame market has radically changed in the last 10 to 15 years (starting around 1990). Faced with increasing cost pressures, both the bed industry and the retailers expect spring supports to be directly available from the manufacturer. The wholesale trade ceases to act as an intermediary and has virtually gone out of existence today. Bast has so far only ever manufactured slatted frames that are marketed as no name products or under other suppliers’ brands. But as the client structure changes, the company now increasingly focuses on supplying retailers and syndicates directly. The end consumer business calls for a clear retail marketing strategy. The company therefore resolves to implement a different business strategy and market its products under its own name as a brand manufacturer. |
2002 | A premiere for Bast: for the very first time in its history, the company takes part in a trade fair. At the M.O.W., existing and new clients are given an opportunity to personally experience all our products. |
2005 | The legal structure is changed and Bast KG now becomes Bast GmbH & Co. KG. |
2006 | A year of great investments. With its new building in the Nordlippepark industrial estate, Bast GmbH & Co. KG consciously decides to remain based in Germany as a production location. A production area of 18,000 m² equipped with the latest production lines ensures that the company will be able to supply this demanding market in a flexible and innovative manner in the future too. |
2007 | Bast starts to produce its own mattresses. The Elenia brand establishes itself in the market. Since autumn 2007, the Bast product range has been augmented by our very own range of mattresses. |
2008 | First successful trade fair attendance at imm cologne 2008. |
